Thousands in need of help
On any given night in Illinois, an estimated 33,159 people live in shelters, transitional housing programs, parks, abandoned buildings, cars, or on the street. In addition to these residents experiencing literal homelessness, tens of thousands of Illinois families—more than 8,000 children—live temporarily and unstably with family and friends.
Needed support
The Supportive Housing Program provides 13,539 individuals with supportive services that enable special needs low-income individuals and families who are formerly homeless or at risk of becoming homeless to maintain their community-based living instead of returning to homelessness.
Prevention is key
There are approximately 6200 families across Illinois that participate in the Homeless Prevention Program, and are being provided mortgage, utility, and rental assistance in efforts to prevent homelessness.
