Illinois is 13th in the U.S. for breast cancer screening. Screening and incidence rates are about equal among Black women and White women.

Diagnosis Rates & Ethnicity

In Illinois, Caucasian women are diagnosed most frequently, but death rates are higher amongst African-American women.

The Importance Of Screenings

Mammograms can detect breast cancer early, allowing for more effective treatment; over 20% of women in Illinois are NOT up to date with screening recommendations.

Risk Factors

Significant risk factors for breast cancer include poor diet, obesity, lack of exercise, heavy alcohol intake, and a family history.
