CHICAGO, July 11, 2025 –  Two lucky Illinoisans can now call themselves millionaires after purchasing $1 million winning Powerball tickets.

Both winning tickets matched all five numbers, 5-9-25-28-69,  in the Powerball drawing held on Wednesday, July 9. The Powerball number was 5.

One of the $1 million winning tickets was purchased online at IllinoisLottery.com, while the other $1 million winning ticket was bought at Youmax Liquor & Grocery Store, located at 2222 W. Devon Ave. in Chicago’s West Ridge neighborhood on the city’s north side.

For selling the winning ticket, Youmax Liquor & Grocery Store will receive a one percent bonus of the prize amount, or $10,000.

This isn’t the first time the retailer has sold a big winning lottery ticket. In April, Youmax Liquor & Grocery Store sold a $25,000 top-prize-winning scratch-off ticket.

So far this year, over one million winning Powerball tickets have been sold in Illinois, with total prizes amounting to more than $13.2 million for Illinois Lottery players.

The lucky winners have one year from the date of the winning draw to claim their prizes. The Illinois Lottery encourages the winners to write their names on the back of their winning tickets and keep them in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prizes.

Powerball tickets are $2 each, and players have the option to add the Power Play feature for an additional $1 for the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes.

Powerball drawings are Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings at 9:59 PM CT. The jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is now at a whopping $234 million.

Powerball b-roll, produced by the Illinois Lottery, is available for the media; download here.

The Illinois Lottery encourages players to remember it’s a game of chance. The more players understand the odds and how to play - the safer their play will be. Be Smart, Play Smart®. Must be 18 or older to play. Game odds available at IllinoisLottery.com.
