CHICAGO, October 16, 2025 — What started as an ordinary evening quickly turned into an unforgettable moment for one lucky Illinois Lottery player, who won a $550,000 jackpot playing Lucky Day Lotto®.
The winner, who opted to remain anonymous under the name “Boom,” purchased the winning ticket at Plano Liquor and Wine, located at 401 E South Street in Plano.
"Would you believe this isn't my first big win,” Boom said with excitement. “I actually won $50,000 on Lucky Day Lotto back in 2001, so to win again is just amazing!”
The winning ticket matched all five numbers — 3-4-6-26-28 — in the September 27 Lucky Day Lotto drawing to secure the $550,000 jackpot.
Boom couldn’t wait to share the news with his wife. “I woke her up and asked, ‘Honey, where do you want to move? I just won the lottery!’ She started hyperventilating. I almost called 911!” he joked.
The big news quickly spread through their small town. “My wife has a big family, and once the calls started coming in, I think they knew it was us,” Boom added.
The lucky couple already has plans for the winnings. ”We’re going to take a dream trip to Hawaii this winter to visit family and make the holidays unforgettable! This also sets us up nicely for retirement,” Boom said with a smile.
For selling the winning ticket, the store will receive a $5,500 bonus, 1% of the prize amount.
Lucky Day Lotto is an Illinois-only draw game with two daily drawings at 12:40 p.m. and 9:22 p.m., and jackpots starting at $100,000. Tickets are available in-store, online, and via the Illinois Lottery app.
