Playing Illinois Lottery Games in Retail

What games can I purchase from an Illinois Lottery retailer?

You can purchase tickets for FastPlay™, FastPlay Scan-N-Play, Powerball®, Mega Millions®, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto®, Pick 3, Pick 4, and HotWins® games.

How do I make lottery purchases at a retail location? 

You can purchase lottery tickets from a store clerk or through an Illinois Lottery vending machine. 

When purchasing a Powerball, Mega Millions, Lotto, Lucky Day Lotto, Pick 3, or Pick 4 ticket, you can pick your numbers using a play slip, by telling your retailer what numbers you’d like, or by selecting your numbers on an Illinois Lottery vending machine. For FastPlay, you simply need to select the ticket you wish to purchase. Once you’ve confirmed your selections with the retailer, you must pay for the ticket, and then they will print your ticket. If you are using an Illinois Lottery vending machine, please select Purchase after confirming your selections. Please note that you must add funds to the machine before you can make any selections.

Do I have pre-add funds to an Illinois Lottery Vending machine?

Yes, you must add money into an Illinois Lottery vending machine before you can make a purchase. The machine does not provide change, so your purchase should use all of the funds you have loaded into the machine. You may use cash, a credit card, or a debit  card at the vending machines.

What is the most I can add or have in my balance on the Illinois Lottery vending machine when making purchases? 

The maximum balance allowed on an Illinois Lottery vending machine is $200.

If I check my tickets using the Illinois Lottery vending machine, and I have a winning ticket(s), how much can I add back to my balance?

If a ticket has a prize of $200 or less, you can add the entire prize to your balance. 

For any win over $200, but $600 or less, the message, “Congrats! You won $XXX! Please take your ticket to the clerk,” will appear on the screen. You will be unable to add the prize to the balance on the machine.

For any win over $600, the message, “Congrats! You won $XXX! Sign your ticket & claim at Lottery,” will appear on the screen.  You will be unable to add the prize to the balance on the machine.

Can I purchase more than one game at a time? 

Yes, you can purchase more than one game at a time. 

Can I purchase multiple draws for one game?

Yes, depending on the game, you can purchase tickets for multiple draws for one game.

How do I know if I’ve won?

If you purchased your ticket at an Illinois Lottery retailer, you can determine whether your ticket is a winner by scanning the barcode located at the bottom of the ticket with the scanner on the ticket checker, Illinois Lottery vending machine, or the Illinois Lottery app.

To scan a lottery ticket using the Illinois Lottery app, tap the Scanner icon at the bottom of the app screen and, using the camera on a mobile device, position the camera over the ticket’s barcode, so the barcode is in the indicated area. Note that you will have to allow the app permission to access your camera in order to use the ticket scanner. 

To view an Instant Ticket barcode, you must scratch to reveal the full barcode.

How do I claim my prize?

When you purchase a ticket from an Illinois Lottery retailer, wins of $600 or less can be redeemed by Illinois Lottery retailers, subject to fund availability. Any prize over $600 must be claimed by mail or at an Illinois Lottery Claim Center. Prizes of $10,000 or less may also be redeemed through an Illinois Lottery e-Claim.
